Privacy notice
This page explains what personal data BGTutor collects, why, who else sees it, and the rights you have over it. It is written to meet Article 13 of the EU/EEA General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as it applies in Norway. Plain language, no boilerplate we can't back.
Who we are
BGTutor is operated by Are W. Romøren, the data controller for the processing described here. Built in Norway. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights below, contact privacy@bgtutor.app.
What we collect
- Invite requests. The email address you submit, and the optional free-text note about your game.
- If you become a tester. Your display name; the games you play and analyze; your mistakes and the performance ratings we compute from them; and any matches you import — which may contain your opponents' names.
- Feedback. Any feedback you choose to send us.
- Basic technical data. Your IP address, used only to rate-limit abuse of the public invite form. It is not stored with your account.
Why we process it (legal basis)
- Providing the coaching service you asked for. We process your games, analyses, ratings and imports to deliver the coaching you signed up for — on the basis of the contract (our beta agreement with you) and our legitimate interest in running and improving the beta.
- Invite requests are processed on the basis of your consent to be contacted about the beta.
Who else sees it
To generate coaching explanations, the board positions and the moves you make are sent to Anthropic (our AI provider), which processes them as a data processor on our behalf, under our instructions.
The service is hosted on shrp.no, in Norway. We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.
Anthropic processes data in the United States, so generating an explanation involves a transfer of your position and moves outside the EU/EEA. Anthropic processes that data on our behalf under its own data-processing terms.
How long we keep it
- Game history and account data — for as long as you use the service.
- Invite emails — until we've responded to you, or until you ask us to remove them.
- You can request deletion at any time — see your rights below.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data rectified;
- have your data erased;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- object to processing based on legitimate interest;
- withdraw your consent at any time (for invite requests), without affecting processing already carried out.
To exercise any of these, email the contact above. You also have the right to complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet — datatilsynet.no.
